Chilton Waste Service

13 June 2012

Raymond Brown Minerals & Recycling Ltd has saved 33 jobs in Oxfordshire thanks to the swift acquisition of a waste management firm.

RBMR purchased Didcot-based Chilton Waste Services from BDO under a pre-pack administration agreement. Less than two weeks after administrators were first contacted, the transaction with RBMR was complete, securing the future of the business and the jobs of its 33 employees.

Now operating under the Raymond Brown name, the business continues to trade as normal.

Steve Clasby, director of RBMR, said: “When Chilton Waste Services came up for sale, we realised it was a great opportunity but had to move quickly to prevent it from falling into irreparable financial distress.

“The acquisition marks a significant milestone for RBMR, adding to our growing network of recycling facilities across the south. Geographically the site couldn’t be better placed, extending the reach of our services to the north into Oxfordshire.”

The Chilton recycling facility is permitted to process 150,000 tonnes of waste a year, primarily collected from 2,000 wheelie bin lifts around the region every month and via its skip and ro-ro hire service. With the advantage of cutting-edge equipment at its recycling facility near Andover, RBMR hopes to increase the percentage of waste recycled at Chilton from the 35% currently being achieved to 90% and above.

“Access to the additional waste, which will include plastics, card, paper, wood, metal and construction material, will be a great benefit to the entire business and a good opportunity to further limit what’s being sent to landfill.”

The purchase included the company’s trade, plant and equipment plus its 13-acre freehold site.

“Obviously we’re delighted to have secured the jobs of the dedicated staff at Chilton and would like to welcome them to the Raymond Brown team,” concluded Steve.
